Did General Motors deliberately sabotage the marketing of electric cars because they threatened the motor industry? That's the allegation made in a controversial new documentary.
Ten years ago, GM unveiled the EV1 -- the first electric car for the mass market. "The EV1 was really special because it was cool and fast and fun to drive," states former GM marketer Chelsea Sexton. "These cars were so good, they would challenge the status quo of the oil industry." But despite their popularity among owners, GM quickly pulled the plug on its new product. It claims there was simply no mass market. "You could only go 100 miles before you had to recharge it so had to adapt your lifestyle to meet the needs of the vehicle," states spokesman Dave Barthmuss. But other workers believe GM never intended the EV1s to work and were more interested in promoting Hummers. "We got indications along the way that they weren't as sincere as they would have people believe," states Sexton. All the EV1s had been leased, instead of sold, to their owners. When the leases expired, GM refused to renew them and sent the cars to be crushed. But demand for electric cars keeps on growing. Some enthusiasts have converted their own cars to run on electricity and claim they have invented a battery that will last for 500km.

I'd buy an electric car if one were available. The idea of zero emission vehicle sounds better than having to rely on fossil based fuel. So why did? General Motors kill the car? That doesn't make a lick of sense.

At this point, both hybrids and electric cars are? for people to think they're better than other people. This woman is a fine example, feeling, "Empowered." People use it to think they're on a higher social class, and I won't have it. Gasoline burning isn't going to melt the ice caps, global warming is a hoax. How many times will their false prophecies have to be wrong for people to wake up and see it?

If GM killed the electric car, how come we now have the GM Chevy Volt with a 50 mi range or the fully electric Nissan Leaf with? the same 100 mi. range as the EV1?

They quit making the electric simply because people didn't like it. It was a clunky? litle expensive car that didn't work very well. The electric will become popular when they work and manufacturers can make $ on them.

No, electric cars? ...
No, electric cars? all come with a home outlet charger that does quick charges and also a normal outlet charger that can be used on the go, but the charging is slower. Whatever the case, many people will have usage for electric vehicles. Families normally own more than one car anyway, so one can be a daily driver (electric) and the other petrol car can be for those seldom cross-country road trips, that is until car companies lift the patents off batteries or they become more advance.

Did you even watch the video or is your head so far up your own ass you can't hear? It was said that the batteries had a range of up? to 400-500 km per charge. That's roughly 250-300 miles per charge. That's plenty. You probably didn't even watch the end, where a little electric Datsun smokes the pants off a modified petrol Mustang.

If your going electic it think it would have to be solar,? where is the electricity going to come from if not? We need the electricity for the main grid, so I think water, air and e-coil bio fuels are a better option
